OK, well it appears that I need some freeware called Firewire that can 
be downloaded from Apple.  A big problem is that I have no other Mac 
new enough to use in the process. I have now read some articles from 
Apple and tips from techies and get the idea.  I'm probably going to 
call around and see what it would cost at a Mac repair place as you 
suggested.  There is one near us that used years ago.  The Apple store 
gave me some quotes.  I may even look into the cost of renting a Mac as 
well to do the transfer.  I actually have the intructions and just need 
to buy the hard drive and a connection device and download the FireWire 
onto a working Mac.

On another note, please tell Noelle that Kim has contacted me about 
having a No Kidding event in the near future.
