As reluctant as I am to recommend buying anything from Microsoft (I used
to work there and saw how the sausage was made), I agree with Bob and
think buying MS Office 2013 would probably be your best bet, especially
since you are unable to find your original Microsoft Office 2003 CD/DVD
and you may need functionality that Google Docs and OpenOffice will not
offer. (My only reluctance is your developing a dependency upon Outlook;
one just has to hope that Microsoft will survive for 25 more years.)
[FWIW, neither Noelle nor I use OpenOffice -- we use LibreOffice which is
a bit more stable and has a few more features than OpenOffice. I have
used Google Docs and the features there worked just fine for my purposes
at the time.]
Gail? Do you want me to buy this computer? Given that the deadline is
April 2014 and you're not taking advantage of the x-mas sales, I don't
think there is any particular rush.
