I like my Highlander hybrid. When I bought my car, Toyotas and Hondas
did seem to be the best, but now there are more brands available. After
test-driving the Hondas and Toyotas that were available, I ended up
deciding between the Honda accord and Toyota Highlander and chose the
highlander because it was supposed to get better mileage and seemed more
functional to me. The mileage has turned out to be less than quoted
(supposed to be 32 in city/28 fwy but is more like 22 average -- what my
old VW got but now bigger car) but I know this always seems to happen so
I'm not sure how it would truly compare to the Accord. I also have a
friend who has a Honda Civic hybrid and likes it, it gets really good
mileage too like the Prius. I didn't really consider a Prius because
none were available to drive off the lot without pre-ordering and being
waitlisted but I don't know if that's still the case and sounds like
your car still runs so it may not matter.

Next weekend, we are going to Santa Barbara for Allen's mother's 70th
birthday. Any suggestions on things to do?
