It seems that there are 2 conditions in which the DSL line comes up: 1) Leaving the phone off the hook and waiting until the "If you want to make a call..." Once the "If you want to make a call..." is spoken and until the beep-beep-beep terminates, the DSL internet connection will remain up. Within a few seconds after the beep-beep-beep stops, the DSL disconnects. 2) Making a phone call will always guarantee that the DSL internet will connect.
