Hi Robert, How was your trip? Any bites? Stockholm is a beautiful city (if there is such a thing), with lots of good public buildings, but really cold and gray now. Yesterday i saw the sun for the first time since arrival. It's been cloudy and sometimes rainy. The price for sun was bitter cold and wind. People stay indoors a lot, as you can imagine. The facility is pretty good. A brand-new building, with lots of glass; the labs are spacious, and well-stocked. They've put me into a south-facing office for the time being, which is good for sun. My office-mate is really great - he's an Aussie guy doing a PhD here, and very outgoing and easygoing, and he knows everything in Stockholm. My first week was pretty hectic. I'm in a consulting role here, as well as a managerial role; and so I ran around introducing myself to people who might need my skills. Also there was lots to learn about the group i'm managing, and a bit of backed-up stuff to deal with. I'm OK with a bit of management, and it looks like that's about the level that the job demands. I'm getting to know people fairly quick, and it seems like there might well be good opportunities here. -- Mark Reimers, Ph.D, Manager, Sequence Analysis Center Karolinska Institute Stockholm 46-8-728-7826
