You might want to try connecting the NIC to another machine to make sure that it's working... There are some problems with certain NE2k clones that I've seen. Linux appears to recognize the card, but it wont actually transmit on the network. I've seen this behavior with certain NetGear NE2k clones. So, verify that you have a working card by configuring it with a static IP and trying to talk to a local network. If that works then make sure you are cabled properly to the CM. Make sure you have the proper crossover or patch cable. Beyond that, I have no idea why DHCP is failing with the CM.
