No, I didn't know that. Sounds more like a "'script for success". Pretty
funny.

I was expecting that, when the downturn came, it would last a long time.
I saved as much as I could on the assumption that we'd have a
depression-style downturn. (I remember my professor at Evergreen always
used to say "...depression. What do they call those these days?
Recession?") I'm just sort of disappointed that we haven't had deflation
like in Japan. Oh, well.

The war on Iraq may be getting stopped or slowed. It's just amazing what
centralized power is capable of doing -- and depressing. Unfortunately, I
think most people (read: Americans) fall into the trap. They somehow
think that they are going to be a target of terrorism, when, in fact,
looking at the probabilities, it is more likely that you'll get killed in
a car accident. And then they want to spend, spend, spend on militarism
and destruction rather than on programs to give medical aid to the poor
and elderly.

I just hope our alienation with Germany continues -- they seem to be the
only smart people left (i.e., they're against this war mongering even at
the expense of their economy).
