extreme equality

The discussion in that philosophy podcast about inequality reminded me of
this short story a read when I was a kid:

I am definitely in the minority in that I think that this distopia is
really a utopia in my mind.  I.e., that degrading the state of people who
are doing well in order to make people more equal, not by improving the
state of those who are not doing well.
