Not sure that I agree that "COVID has reduced to tatters the illusion of
American exceptionalism".  I think it is exactly the American
individualism that has brought the United States to this point.

This is quite a different point, however, than whether this is the end of
American empire.  It could be.  One can only hope.

Regarding Canadian values, I wonder if anything is given up with the
"collectivism" in Canada?  If there is, I don't see it.  I wonder if
they'll continue to succeed in fighting COVID-19, or whether they'll slip
back like New Zealand did.
