It was only a few years ago that I quoted your quoting of Alan Perlis
("Syntactic sugar causes cancer of the semicolon") to my co-workers.  Of
course, nobody had heard this quote and nobody had thought that there was
anything wrong with semicolons.

It makes me wonder how anyone comes to question anything, let alone
question assumptions.
