Despite your laptop being very old, I still think it would be easier to
upgrade it to Windows 10 rather than buying another laptop.  This is
because you can avoid having to reinstall all your software.
Also, I think we should wait for as long as possible (prior to the Jan 14,
2020 deadline) in the hopes that your company's contract with UMass will
get canceled and you'll have some down time to spend a few days getting
things working after an upgrade.
