But it's not really contrary, because Gopnik concedes that you can't just
ignore the competition. The Times article I sent wasn't arguing that the
hyper-competition is good for kids! We're all really on the same page
here; bringing up kids to win a competition is bad for them, in lots of
different ways, from lack of sleep to inability to think independently, but
if you opt out, the kid will end up economically hurt.
