Just to follow up with our last phone call: we talked with Alliance
Credit Union two more times and received one phone call. They still
refuse to transfer my existing checking and savings accounts into
the trust; instead, they insist that we must open new joint accounts
in order to put them into the trust.
My current thought is that I will try to open another savings
account at the same credit union as my husband, and leave my
checking account at Alliance. (Note that my husband was able to
successfully transfer his accounts at his credit union into the
trust, so we know that I would be able to transfer any new savings
account into the trust.)
Note also that Alliance Credit Union refused to have the trust as a
beneficiary for any accounts, including the checking account. This
means that any account I leave open at Alliance will be subject to
probate, unfortunately.
