Good call.  I didn't realize that even when filing taxes jointly, each
spouse must gift to the maximum exclusion, according to
https://www.lenczowskilaw.com/2013_-_Gift_Taxes.html , in order to avoid
the the extremely complex issues w.r.t. taxes and gifts.
I think it would be worth writing separate checks.  We'll come up with
something.
