Remembering Sr. Margaret



Sister Margaret Elizabeth Gearon
October 28, 2012

Sister Margaret Elizabeth Gearon (formerly Sister Mary Berch¬mans), 94, a Sister of Mercy for 71 years, died Sunday, Oc¬tober 28, 2012, after a long illness. Anative of Salina, Kan., she was the daughter of William and Marga¬ret (Paulet) Gearon. Sister Margaret Elizabeth received her B.A. degree in English from Mount St. Mary College in Hooksett, N.H.

For many years she taught in Catholic elementary schools in New Hampshire and Massa¬chusetts. She was a teacher at St. Mary School in Franklin, St. Mary School in Dover, St. Patrick School in Portsmouth, St. Joseph and McDonald Schools in Manchester, and St. Mary School in Claremont, all in . In Mas¬sachusetts, she taught at St. Ann School in Gloucester and served at Holy Family Parish in Lynn, where she tutored and worked with kindergar¬ten children. Sister Margaret Elizabeth also taught religious education classes at a number of New Hampshire parishes, including St. Matthew Parish in Windham. For 23 years she cared for a person who was quadriplegic. Alover of na¬ture, Sister Margaret Eliza¬beth enjoyed walking.

Family members include a sister, Martha Short, who lives in Arizona, and a brother, William Anthony Gearon of St. Louis, as well as many nieces and nephews. Sister Mar¬garet Elizabeth was predeceased by three sisters, Mary Polm, Ann Lammert, and Gabrielle Kullman; and two brothers, Maurice Touri¬gny and Ferdinand Tourigny.

ARRANGEMENTS: Friends may call at the Warde Health Center, 21 Searles Road, N.H., on Friday, November 2, from 9:30-11 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in the chapel. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford, N.H. Memo¬rial donations may be made to the Sisters of Mercy, 21 Searles Road, box 420, NH -0420. Douglas & Johnson Funeral, 214 Main St, Salem, N.H. has care of the arrangements.
