I was wondering why I never played a musical instrument.  It just seems a
bit weird to me since I played drums and a little bass once I was at
Evergreen.  And I never really learned to read music (at least, I don't
remember much from college).

(I do remember that Jonathan Payne played the flute, but eventually gave
it up.)

I was thinking about how Alexander learned to play the guitar (I guess
Nicholas never played an instrument).

And I was also thinking about how he is presumably taking college prep
courses (which, as you can see from mom's response, I never took, either).

It's hard to say, 'tho, whether it would've changed where I ended up or
who I ended up being...

Maybe dad never wanted to push us to do anything particular (he was forced
to play piano, I think, and hated it).  But, oddly, I do remember him
signing me up for algebra when I was in 8th grade, despite my never taking
pre-algebra (he said at the time that I didn't need to take it).  [I
remember this distinctly that he was doing this while sitting on the
toilet.  The good ol' days??]
