As you know (except for Margaret, who I didn't want to unnecessarily burden) I have been traipsing like a faun through the medical landscape for the last two weeks, starting with a CAT scan that revealed an area of concern in my right lung. This morning I talked with my PCP and with my dear radiologist friend, Christoph, regarding yesterday's PET scan. There was absolutely no "uptake" of the radioactive sugars used in the PET scanning process, indicating a very low likelihood that the tumor is "active." At this point we will schedule a follow up low-dose CAT scan in three to six months just to check on things. If that's alright they will follow with another in three to six and then a third after a year. If these scans over 1.5 to 2 years show no growth then it will all be to the good. I'm sorry for any distress any or all of this may have caused you. But, it is better to know than not to know, and I feel that the folks at Lahey Clinic were more than attentive to some of the unfortunate possibilities in this situation. I also feel that it is better to be as open as possible with friends and family than to hide anything (not to say that timing doesn't come into play...). The sad fate of Peter Jennings was very much on my mind. So, I'm fine. Let's say a prayer for Teddy. Jim
