I decided to sign up with State Farm. The premiums are quite a bit higher
($453 vs. $360) and the general property deductible is higher ($500) but
the earthquake deductible is lower ($750 vs $2000). Unfortunately, I
couldn't get coverage lower than $25000 -- they require an itemized list
for lower coverage and that sounds like a drag.
Anyway, I feel better about this because who knows what Balboa would do if
something bad happened, like my computer got stolen or everything gets
trashed in an earthquake.
I now have to send a written blurb (sent via fax) cancelling my old
policy.
