Do you know if these type prevent the wheel from hitting the trunk or any
part of the car?

Roof racks are not an option since my bikes are so _heavy_.

I have to do with my Trek 7300 since it has a women's bicycle frame,
anyway.

Yeah. Noelle won't let me carry bicycles with the bicycle rack we have.
So, either I have to accept not ever carrying bicycles via automobile
agian, or getting a trunk rack that will not take any paint off the car,
or get another car which permits a hitch style bicycle rack.
