In other news, I decided that my old laptop was too unstable and bought a new
one from Dell with Ubuntu pre-installed.  I haven't really had time to set it
up -- probably this weekend.  (It has a 160GB hard drive!  (They provided it
for "free".)  I have no idea what I'm going to do with so much disk space...  I
figure I can back up my entire old Windows 98 laptop onto it and still have
plenty of space left over.  If I get ambitious some day in the future and if I
need to, I may install VMWare or equivalent and run Windows XP under Ubuntu.)
