Greetings friends and family, boils and
ghouls:
Francis Bacon says "Things alter for the worse
spontaneously, if they be not altered for the better designedly." So hopefully
I'll be altering things for the better designedly. There will be some big
changes coming down the pike, this is your first warning...
I'm moving and I'll be renting out the
house.
It's an old story for anyone in the high tech
industry in the Bay Area. The job market has been in the toilet and someone
flushed. Over the past two years I think I've worked maybe three months in total
(that I was actually paid for >-( . Ok, what I've been doing isn't
working anymore, time to try something different. I'm moving out of the house
and renting so that I can hopefully have the mortgage and maybe a little of the
upkeep covered. At the very least, I'll have some of the mortgage covered. That
will give me the freedom to move about the country, try new things, or
whatever.
I'm moving to where-I-live. [8 Granada Circle,
where-I-live 94544]
My sister lives in where-I-live in the three bedroom/two
bath -- I'll be moving in with her. This will give me the advantage of an
occupied home base, and hopefully help her out as she moves into retirement. The
good news is that I don't have any kind of drop dead date that I have to be out
of the house; the bad news is that I don't have any kind of drop dead date...
It's a situation that allows for a lot of dinking around and procrastination.
But, I'm shooting for November first to be completely moved.
I'm giving up my land line and going totally
cellular.
I bought an unlocked So_ny Ericsson P800 tri-band
smartphone and a T-Mobile sim card, put the two together and ta da, Bob's your
uncle. I haven't actually started carrying the phone on a regular basis. I'll
let you know when, sometime around the end of October, my landline will be gone
and it will be time to switch over. New number is 510-759-4574.
Naturally my DSL line will be going
away.
I'm going to tap into Jeanie's cable modem
wirelessly. What that means to you is that any of my SBCGlobal.net emails will
be going away as well. My original Yahoo address will remain intact (I'm pretty
sure, I don't know why it wouldn't). That is http://profiles.yahoo.com/gail. I'll let you know when
the email addresses get ready to drop dead, and also when I get a new
one.
Samuel Johnson says, "All travel has its
advantages. If the passenger visits better countries, he may learn to improve
his own. And if fortune carries him to worse, he may learn to enjoy
it."
[Can you tell I discovered brainyquote.com?
:-}
I'm going to New Zealand in February next
year.
The extended DVD for Return of the King comes out
December 14th. I plan to have it in hand two seconds after it becomes available,
watch all three back to back and fall into a Middle Earth stupor. What could top
that? Well a LotRs locations tour, of course!!
There will be more detail, updates and course
corrections along the way. For now, this is what's on the agenda. Hope all is
well with you.
TTYL,
Gail
