Cynthia: Attached is a PDF file letter, similar to one that I have mailed or emailed to other energizer station captains. The most important info is about the "bag stuffing" and pickup this Friday, May 14, between noon and 5pm at the MTC MetroCenter Auditorium, 101 Eighth St, Oakland. I hope to find additional marketing materials for you by Friday and I should also have the BART permit for you to set up immediately outside of the paid station area. Two of our local EBBC members, Diane and Robert, have volunteered to help staff the Hayward BART energizer station on BTWD from 7am to 9am on Thursday, May 20. It is always useful to have fleet assistants to reach out to commuting bicyclists who are typically in a hurry. As well, Diane and Robert can offer novice commuters advice and information about local routes and advocacy efforts. I really appreciate the tremendous community spirit that you display. -Robert Raburn, Executive Director ******************************************** East Bay Bicycle Coalition www.ebbc.org box 1736 msg:(510)433-RIDE Oakland, CA 94604 tel:(510)530-3444 ******************************************** "To promote bicycling as an everyday means of transportation and recreation" Content-Type: application/pdf; name="CaptainLetter-Dorsey.pdf" Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="CaptainLetter-Dorsey.pdf" EAST BAY BICYCLE COALITION POST OFFICE BOX 1736 OAKLAND, CA 94604 www.ebbc.org May 12, 2004 Cynthia Dorsey Senior Marketing Representative AC Transit 1600 Franklin Street Oakland, CA 94612 Dear Cynthia: Bike to Work Week 2004, May 17-18, promises to be our best event since 1994 when the EBBC first offered Oakland bike commuters a free pancake breakfast at City Hall. It soon spread to become both a regional and a statewide effort to introduce Cans to bicycle- and bike-transit commuting. Many public officials were impressed during the early years at how many cyclists would ride in the rain. Moving Biketo Work Day from April to late May (Thursday, May 20) has since helped novice bike commuters learn useful tips other than wet weather gear. Unfortunately, I have no more cool 11x17 posters of the "no crack" bicycling plumber, but I will have few reminder post cards and some registration sheets available on Friday. AC Transit and Hayward employees will also find that it is easy to pledge to ride during the week on the www.511.org site. Plenty of info about energizer stations, pedal pools and other activities and prizes is included online. We will stage our annual "bag stuffing party" from noon to 5:00pm this Friday, May 14 in the auditorium of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission Metrocenter, 111 Eighth St, Oakland (opposite Lake Merritt BART). Please let me know if you would like us to add anything on your behalf to the Hayward BART allotment of canvas bags. Energizer Station Captains can pick up boxed allotments of bags between 3:30 and 5:00pm. Please join us immediately afterward for food and drink at Quinn's Lighthouse on Embarcadero, near Coast Guard Island. Fun is always part of the bicycle equation (recreation PLUS transportation). This year we'll kick-off Bike Week with the dedication of the new Zampa Bridge Path over the Carquinez Strait on Sunday, May 16 (11am inaugural ride). For details, please log onto ebbc.org. I applaud your community spirit for supporting the Hayward BART energizer station. Please call me if I can be of assistance. Sincerely, Robert Raburn Executive Director (510) 530-3444 TO PROMOTE BICYCLING AS AN EVERYDAY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION AND RECREATION ^L
