No.  The other mount points (HDB) will simply be inaccessible, but you
shouldn't edit /etc/mtab -- only /etc/fstab.  That's the important one.
Is your conclusion that the keyboard stops working due to the fact that
you can CTL-ALT-DEL for a short period and reboot the machine?
You could try:
$ setterm -blank 0
to disable the monitor blanking.  (Do "man setterm" for more options.)
