I'm surprised that many of the people quoted in "My First Recession"
did not see their situation beyond their own immediate circumstance.  The
WTO meeting in Qatar will have a profound effect on each of these people's
lives, as well as all of us, and yet it doesn't occur to them to write to
their congressman to oppose free trade in the name of saving their own
jobs.  Besides the WTO, the Free Trade of the Americas (FTAA) could be
even more insidious, affecting white-collar high-tech workers more than
any damage the WTO could inflict.
