Subject: Radio-By-You

Here's the official press release for an event this Sunday the 26th, which
is being hosted by our pals at Radio Free Cambridge. They need people to
get behind the microphone and do their thing; something that I thought
would be an appealing idea for Radio Free Allston alumni and for anyone
else interested in experiencing low-power community radio first-hand. Call
Alan Nidle at the Zeitgeist Gallery at 617-876-2182 if you want them to
hold a time slot for you.

RADIO-BY-YOU

Community Celebrates Low-Power Radio

Cambridge and Boston-area residents will celebrate the power of community
radio by stepping behind the microphone and generating a day of music and
talk at Sennott Park on Broadway and Norfolk Sts. in Cambridge. A
transmitter built by participants will broadcast the proceedings to the
surrounding neighborhood on 106.1 FM.

The event is being planned as a living testament of support to the proposal
made in January by the Federal Communications Commission for a new Low
Power FM service. During the Public Comment period, which ended on
September 1, the FCC received more comments than on any proceeding in its
history, as communities around America stood up for access to the "public
airwaves." The proposal is being opposed by the National Association of
BroadcastersNAB) and the Corporation for Public Broadcasters(CPB).

Representatives of neighborhood groups will be on hand to talk about issues
such as housing, welfare and education. In addition, former participants in
Radio Free Allston will reprise shows they hosted during the 9-month
life-span of that station, which was closed by the FCC despite broad
community support.

The event will run from 2 PM to 8PM and will also feature live music,
theatre performances, food and diversions for the whole family; not
including, we hope, a visit from our friends in black.
