latency & my BookPC VIA ProSavage P4M266 VT8751 (Northbridge) and VT8233 (Southbridge)-based Motherboard

As it turns out, one can use "setpci" to change the latency in Linux -- a
kernel patch/module doesn't seem to be needed. I'm testing it out right
now. (I increased the latency for the IDE PCI device from 32 to 96. Disk
accesses are now much slower.) There's no way to change the latency in
my AmiBIOS. "setpci" won't let you change the latency on the AC97-based
soundcard.

I'll keep you updated.
