No, Boston does not do enough for cyclists. Despite all the bad press of bike lanes, more bike lanes not built next parked cars should be constructed in Boston, even at the price of displacing automobile parking spots. Several intersections do not trigger the traffic lights when a bicycle is waiting on top of the trigger spot; the cyclist will wander across the intersection against the light out of necessity. Because Boston's traffic laws are so laxly enforced, car drivers are permitted to travel at insane speeds on rather narrow roads; traffic officers effectively enforcing speeding laws would make the roads more safe for cyclists. Finally, the poor state of Boston's road surfaces contribute to dangerous conditions; when a cyclist needs to avoid a monstrous pothole, an erratic move may put her into the path of a car.
