got my book pc booted

Got my book pc booted, but haven't installed the OS.
Also, bought a serial mouse extension cord from CompUSA, but found out that
the little nut things prevent it from plugging into my data switch. What
can be done? (I was thinking of getting a hacksaw and cutting the nut things
off. Is that the best way??)
Also, could I borrow your Windows 98 install CD? (I only have the SE upgrade
CD, not the original install.)
