I found the problem with this.  The problem is once it gets to:

http://service.bfast.com/bfast/click?siteid=25613064&bfpage=wsearch_sm&bfmid=22218516&user=befree&pg=q&q=whatever+whatever2&kl=XX

it then gets redirected to:

http://jump.altavista.com/befree1.go?&sourceid=00256130643798895458&user=befree&pg=q&q=whatever+whatever2&kl=XX

which then gets redirected to:

http://www.altavista.com/sites/listings/GT_av?&sourceid=00256130643798895458&user=befree&pg=q&q=whatever+whatever2&kl=XX&ln=5&poa=befree1

which then gets redirected to:

http://www.altavista.com/sites/search/web?q=whatever whatever2&kl=XX

Note the space in the URL.  So, it's probably altavista's fault, although
that's not completely clear.
