I went to cafe Louis located in the back Bay in Boston. It is a fairly expensive restaurant whose menu mostly contained meat. However, they are very sensitive to special dietary needs, including for vegans. At first, I ordered the beet salad, but after informing them of my dietary needs, they told me that the beet salad had cheese in it. So, I decided to just settle with an entree. I ordered what I thought was the only vegan dish on the menu, but was told that the mashed potatoes were not vegan. After inquiring with the chef, the waitress told me that he could substitute olive oil for the milk in them. I agreed. The dish which I ordered was a grilled vegetables. It was very tasty, but definitely not low-fat -- it was smothered in olive oil. Cafe Louis 234 Berkeley St. @ Newbury Boston, Ma 617-266-4680
