I am a software developer and also love Linux. I happen to be a member of
both ACM and IEEE Computer Society (I love their Software magazine), as
well as Usenix (www.usenix.org). ACM only has a few perks, and only 50%
of the Communications of the ACM (magazine) actually interest me. IEEE
Computer has a few other free things which interest me (such as the
Technical Committee on Software Engineering special interest group), and
as I said their Software magazine is top-notch (it costs extra to
subscribe). I'm hoping to take more advantages of Usenix this year, such
as discounts on subscribing to Linux Journal.
But, I'm not a sys admin (except in my spare time!).
