BBC WORLD SERVICE and REALAUDIO
The BBC has recently signed a contract with ICL for the provision of a
commercially funded Internet service. The service will provide news
(including World Service news), sport, entertainment, weather, etc. It
will carry advertising and there will be an on-line shopping component.
It is anticipated that the service will launch in the first quarter of
1997. There will be a substantial RealAudio element to the service,
although we are unable to say at the moment, apart from the news in
English, what World Service programmes are likely to be available.
Further announcements will be made on the general BBC Web pages
<http://www.bbc.co.uk/>
