I have two Linksys routers: a BEFSR41 (wired) and a BEFW11S4 (wireless). I already had the BEFW11S4 and it works great. I bought a BEFSR41 hoping to connect them together. Before doing anything, I changed the IP address for the BEFSR41 to 192.168.1.5 . (The IP address of the BEFW11S4 is 192.168.1.1 .) I also disabled DHCP. When I try to connect the uplink from one router to another, it doesn't work. I tried: 1) BEFSR41 uplink -> BEFW11S4 port 2 2) BEFW11S4 uplink -> BEFSR41 port 2 Nothing is plugged into port 1 nor port 4 on either router. I am using a standard CAT5 ethernet cable. When I try either #1 or #2, the network gets flooded with ethernet frame packets. (I tried tcpdump when I connect them together, but there are no TCP/IP packets. So, I assume that they are frames, not packets.) When trying #1 or #2, I am unable to connect or send any data over the LAN at all. I also tried clicking on the "router" button (instead of "gateway") on the Dynamic Routing tab on BEFSR41. It made no difference whatsoever. I tried unplugging both of their power supplies and plugging them back in. It made no difference. I speculated that the switch is trying to "learn" the MAC address for the port since the 100Mbps light lights up temporarily before flooding with the frame packets. (All of my ethernet cards are 10Mbps, not 100Mbps.) I tried unplugging all the ethernet cables connected to the 10Mbps ethernet cards, seeing if I could connect the two hubs at all. It didn't work, either. The firmware level on my BEFW11S4 is 1.37.9b, Jun 21 2001. The firmware level on my BEFSR41 is 1.42.3, Jan 28 2002. Thanks for any help with this.
