alex-servers mailing list & non-anonymous use of Alex

Hi.  Two things:

1) Is the alex-servers mailing list (at CMU) alive?
2) Do you know if it's possible to run Alex through non-anonymous ftp?

I'd like to be able to run NFS via PPP via SLiRP, and I was hoping Alex could
be my answer.  Since I do not have root access on the host of my ISP, I'd like
to use ftp through my account there and then be able to "mount" it via Alex.

Do you know of anyone who has tried such a thing?
